Two vehicles are reported to have been involved in an accident on Cove Road near Stuart on August 23rd, 2020. The Sunday crash that happened at about 5:30 p.m. caused a huge snarl-up as the stretch of Cove Road remained closed between Ault Avenue and Willoughby Boulevard to allow the Florida Highway Patrol to carry their investigation.
Reported Casualties
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the two-vehicle collision on Cove Road caused the death of a 65-year-old man at the scene, and another 25-year-old woman from Palm Beach Gardens sustained severe injuries. The spokesperson for Martin County Fire Rescue, Bethany Alex, said that the injured woman was flown to a nearby hospital.
Cause of the 2-Vehicle Accident
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened as the SUV driver tried to make an inappropriate lane change and landed into the pickup’s path, causing the vehicles to collide head-on. Looking at the images from the scene, the pickup overturned onto the grass along the northern shoulder of the road and rested on its roof while the SUV came to rest between the eastbound and westbound lanes.
Increased Car Accidents in West Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, and Surrounding Areas
It is unfortunate that such fatal car accidents have become commonplace in West Palm Beach and surrounding areas. A few hours before the 2-vehicle accident, a 59-year-old man lost his life in a one-vehicle crash at about 2,00 p.m. on State Road 70 west of Fort Pierce. On Monday morning, August 24th, 2020, around 5:35 a.m., a man died following a fatal crash at mile marker 121, St, Lucie West Boulevard.
Just a time like this last year, Thursday, August 29th, 2019, a serious crash completely shut down Cove Road from Kanner Highway between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. According to Martin County sheriff’s office and Fire Rescue team at the scene, the crash caused serious injuries, but no fatalities were recorded.
