A horrific crash on Thursday, 27 August 2020, caused the closure of all lanes on Florida’s Turnpike in Martin County for several hours. The early morning accident involving two semi-trucks happened at Mile Marker 133 in the northbound lanes near SW Martin Downs Blvd, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Impact of the 2 Semi-Trucks Accident

Although there were no injuries, the crash left the highway covered in debris and gravel. From the images shared by Martin County Sheriff’s Office, one car could be seen flipped upside down on the side of the Turnpike, while several others could be seen sitting loosely on the wrecked tow truck. Across the road, there was also the other semi-truck that appeared to have turned over and spilled gravel onto the roadway.

Alternative Routes

As the crew picked gravel to clear the road, motorists using Florida’s Turnpike were directed to detour at SW Martin Downs Blvd and head west to I-95 as an alternate. However, those coming from Palm Beach County were allowed to get on I-95 at Indiantown Road.

Recent Truck Accidents in St. Lucie County and Martin County

Just two weeks ago, Friday, 14 August 2020, a fatal crash involving a pickup truck, a private ambulance, and Martin County bus claimed one person’s life and injured four others. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 5 p.m. crash happened when the private ambulance slammed Martin County bus and hit a parked pickup truck. That’s not the only recent accident in the area. Around the same time, Tuesday, 11 August 2020, a pedestrian, 41-year-old man from Orem, lost his life in an accident involving a tractor-trailer. According to FHP, the accident happened at mile marker 172, causing all northbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike to remain closed between 4:04 a.m. and 10:37 a.m.
